GANSER PROJECTOR

Announcing itself with a wiry wall of feedback, a grungey bass line sets a sludgey tone for Chicago quartet Ganser's new single 'Projector'. Veering away from the exhilarating krautrock we heard on 'Emergency Equipment & Exits', 'Projector' sees vocalist/bassist Alicia Gaines snarling like PJ Harvey in 1995 as pounding toms echo in a ritualistic formation. Kicking in just before the minute mark, unhinged electric guitars wail - thick with overdrive, intertwining and see-sawing around each other to create suspense as the track progresses. Garofalo explains: "It’s what happens when someone becomes so far removed from general society that their thoughts become a Dunning-Kruger Effect echo chamber of pseudo-wisdom and self-affirmations. Connection and perspective gets lost, but that echo becomes louder and often public." Ganser's new album Just Look at That Sky will arrive this Friday via Felte. -Holly Mullineaux
